Multilingual Drama Program Yaka Wewata Nandikadal – The Theatre of a Healthy Society
This drama program is designed to address the situations that existed during the past war period in Kebithigolleva and Mullivaikkal and open a new approach to healing through it. The groups that join the drama are groups that have practical experience in the said areas during that period or their relatives or children who have had that experience. Accordingly, this is not a drama created using ordinary drama artists, but a unique drama created with the aim of building national unity and a healthy society through social reality using unique groups.
11 training workshops have been held in Kebithigolleva, Colombo, Kalawewa and Kilinochchi to create this drama. The selection of resource persons for the programs of the Arts and Culture and Media Public Relations Division has been done by resource persons approved by a technical committee appointed by the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation.
The stage play created in this way is not a normal form of play and can be used as a tool to promote national unity and as an approach to building discourses for that purpose. The Office hopes that this play will contribute in a special way to the national exercise of building a healthy society.
The stage play ‘Yaka Wewata Nandikadal’, which is created using trained actors, was staged on 23rd January 2026 under the patronage of the Minister of Justice and National Integration, Mr. Harshana Nanayakkara, and with the participation of other MPs and foreign representatives. A large number of people representing different ethnicities and religions, as well as theater, peace and reconciliation activists, participated in this event.
