ONUR Strengthens Civil Society Collaboration to Foster National Integration

The Office for National Unity and Reconciliation had extended an open invitation to NGOs to submit their expressions of interest until March 10th and an awareness program for the groups that had expressed their interests was held at the Hector Kobbekaduwa Research and Training Institute, Colombo on March 20, 2026.03.20. At this, extensive awareness was given on project planning through 11 areas identified for strengthening national unity and reconciliation in the country. Also, details were explained about working with National Integration Officers at the district and regional levels. It should be recalled that more than eighty institutions covering the entire island had expressed their willingness to actively contribute to strengthening national unity in the country. After the opening speech by the Chairman of the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation, Mr. Suchith Abeywickrama, a member of the Board of Directors of the Office, further explained. After that, the Director General explained about the office and these projects, followed by a lecture on project planning by veteran resource person Nuwan Subasinghe, followed by a question and answer session. Finally, the program concluded with an opportunity to identify the groups and officers with an agreement to submit the project proposals to the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation on or before April 06. The program was attended by District and Regional National Integration Officers and members of NGOs both live and online, as well as staff officers and subject officers of the office.
