Provide Trilingual and e library facilities and establish youth library societies – Series 2

 

Library is a “Social political and structural Change Agent in Sri Lanka”. Libraries act as an important force for local community development, empowerment and can play a significant role in a community’s social healing cooperation, economic and social development.

The concept of library can be developed to make a bridge between communities. Digitalized libraries with trilingual books can improve the knowledge and awareness about different cultures it will lead to a deep understanding about different customs of others. The link between reader’s forums of each library will be a bridge between youth in all over the country.

This programme will be conducted with the partnership of Library Services Commission. The district and the project locations were selected/ Identified in consultation LSC by ONUR.

 

SUGGESTED PROGRAMME:

  1. Identify a library with basic facilities in multiethnic GN divisions (Multiethnic GN divisions have been identified by the census data analysis)
  2. Identify a community leadership team in each GN division willing to maintain the library/ develop a reader’s forum consist of youth
  3. Provide books, equipment and internet facilities to improve the standard of the library to the grade certified by the library services commission.
  4. Provide soft skills training to the youth committee to operate the library at their community.
  5. Encourage these libraries to be a center of community meeting and exchange
  6. Make a link between North South youth committees though different activities
  7. Existing youth council/ Coexistent committee will be interlinked in these initiatives.
