Reconciliation related Community initiative (implementing by coexisting committee) Strengthening of the Village and Divisional level coexisting committee

Office for National Unity and reconciliation is the State institute mandated for building national Unity and maintain national reconciliation.

In a country, diverse communities embrace diversity by treating each other’s dignity equally and practicing it, thereby securing the future of all. How do we build these conditions? It requires facilitating constructive dialogue, emphasizing mutual appreciation, understanding, addressing past grievances, and striving to respect the truth. We believe that every community has different experiences of truth/reality, leading to diverse individuals facing unique pains.

One of our objectives is to establish teams that work to prevent conflicts at the village level and to familiarize communities with methods to resolve their daily issues, thereby creating a robust mechanism to address village-level problems. Furthermore, this mechanism will create a channel for ideas to flow directly from the village level to the national level.

This will enable rapid awareness of village-level changes at the national level, allowing for the identification and resolution of issues at the grassroots level. This approach aims to minimize national-level problems, and collective decision-making and action will foster national unity.

Overall, the goal is to create a disciplined country where everyone can live in respect and cooperation, free from fear and doubt.

Community initiative

In Grama Niladhari divisions where co-existence societies have been established, a mechanism will be created to identify and resolve village-level issues in order to strengthen these societies. This will be achieved through discussions held by the co-existence societies, and project proposals submitted through national integration officers will be provided with necessary financial and technical support. All these programs will be carried out on a community-based approach. This will help prevent these societies from becoming inactive and ensure active participation.
