MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY OF JUSTICE
It is with a deep sense of purpose and hope as we collectively embark on a journey toward peace and reconciliation in our beloved Nation. The quest for peace is not merely a political aspiration; it is the beating heart of our nation’s existence, entangled with the diverse threads of our multi-ethnic and multi-religious identity.
Our nation has weathered storms of discord and conflict, but today, we find ourselves at a pivotal moment, armed not with weapons, but with the unwavering determination to build bridges of understanding and foster unity. In the face of adversity, we must recognize that our diversity is not a source of division, but a wellspring of strength.
The Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR) has been at the forefront of this transformative journey, working tirelessly to weave a tapestry of understanding and tolerance across our communities. I acknowledge the unique challenges that have overcome, but also celebrate the resilience of our people and their shared commitment to a harmonious coexistence.
As we navigate the complexities of reconciliation, it is essential to underscore the role of each citizen in this collective endeavor. Reconciliation is not a top-down process dictated by policies alone; it is a grassroots movement that requires the active participation of every individual, community, and sector.
As we navigate this path, challenges will undoubtedly arise, but let us face them with resilience, compassion, and an unwavering belief in the possibility of a united Sri Lanka. In conclusion, I extend my gratitude to all stakeholders, partners, and citizens who have contributed to this noble cause. Let us walk hand in hand, with a shared vision of a Sri Lanka where diversity is our strength, and peace is our legacy.
Nihal Ranasinghe
Secretary to the Ministry of Justice

Dear Friends
As the Chief Executive of the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation, I want to take a moment to address the importance of unity in our nation. Our mission to promote National Unity is more crucial than ever as the Country faces diverse challenges and opportunities that shape our future with a collective will.
In these times of change, it is essential that the people come together with a shared sense of purpose and commitment to the values that bind all the groups with better connectivity. The Country’s strength lies in the societies’ diversity and the ability to find common ground amidst differences. It is possible through dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect which can build a stronger, and an inclusive society.
I am pleased to share that we are embarking on several new initiatives designed to bring communities closer and address the pressing issues that affect us all. These initiatives will involve community engagement activities, public forums, and collaborative projects aimed at fostering dialogue and cooperation. For this purpose, the ONUR has received a mandate, and given recommendations to translate the mandate with the support of the general public (policy document), in accordance with the Parliament Act 2024/01, and as a statutory institution, our staff is bound to fulfill that responsibility.
Your participation and support are vital to the success of these efforts. I encourage ALL to get involved, share ideas, and contribute to the positive changes we strive to achieve. Together, we can create a more cohesive and harmonious society where every voice is heard and valued.
Please stay tuned for more information on upcoming events and opportunities to engage. I look forward to working alongside each of you as we advance our shared vision for a united and thriving nation.
Thank you for your continued dedication and commitment to our cause.
