Consultative process for the preparation of the National Reconciliation Strategy of the Office for National Reconciliation and the Action Plan of the Office for National Reconciliation and Reconciliation.

As this office became a statutory institution by the Act of Parliament No. 2024/01, provision was made in the said Act to prepare the national action plan and national policy of the office. Accordingly, this process was started by the finance chief of Global Communities Sri Lanka, a subsidiary of USAID. For that purpose, the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation decided to get community participation covering all 25 districts and every stratum of the society and it was expected that a more effective result could be achieved in getting the opinions of every social stratum from the ground level.

Accordingly, this process was started on 08.10.2024 from Kurunegala District of the North Western Province and was completed in 15 consecutive days with the participation of all the district representatives from Central, Sabaragamuwa, South, Western, North, North Central, Eastern and Uva provinces respectively. . Very tiring but to successfully overcome this challenge, the Deputy Director of the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation Mrs. Sanduni Ariyawansa, Assistant Directors H. Ace. Lakmal Maya, T.G.A.S.K. With the resourceful contribution of Kumara Maya, the district level national integration officers and other officials gave their full support and the district secretaries and additional district secretaries of every district gave their full attention in this regard even during the election season and provided the necessary support. It should also be remembered that the Election Commission has given the necessary legal authority to conduct this series of meetings as soon as possible.

Two national level meetings were planned in this process and the meeting for obtaining the consultations of the government officials was held on 29.10.2024 and the meeting for civil society activists was held on 30.10.2024 at Sophia City Hotel premises in Colombo. Based on the data and information obtained here, the further process for preparing the National Reconciliation Policy and Action Plan of the Office for National Reconciliation and Reconciliation has already started.
