Tenth Edition of Sahodara Pasal Successfully Completed in Kurunegala

The tenth edition of Sahodara Pasal / Padasalai was successfully completed in Thummalasooriya, Kurunegala, recently. The five-day residential programme was organized by the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR) and the Department of Education, Uva Province.

More than 150 students of various ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds from over 30 different schools in Uva, North Western and Eastern Provinces attended the programme. Teacher representatives from each school also participated in simultaneous sessions designed to sensitize and empower them on how to use education as a tool to foster National Unity and Reconciliation.

During the Sahodara Pasal / Padasalai programme, students are brought together, shuffled into diverse teams and enabled to participate in experiential learning, guest lectures, entertainment, sports, cultural performances and many activities that bring them together in teams.

Sahodara Pasal / Padasalai is one of the first steps of the long journey for these students being the messengers of peace, coexistence and reconciliation in their own communities.

ONUR was set up with the commitment to achieve national unity and reconciliation was a key feature of January 2015 Presidential campaign. To give effect to this commitment, the Government of Sri Lanka established the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR).
