ONUR Chairperson meets with former Japanese PM

A meeting was held on the 17th of August 2016, between Chairperson of Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR), Former President Madam Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and the Former Prime Minister of Japan Hon. Yasuo Fukuda, who is currently visiting Sri Lanka.

The strong bond and friendship between Sri Lanka and Japan was reiterated in the discussion. Madam Kumaratunga spoke about the commitment of the government towards national unity and reconciliation while Hon Fukuda expressed his pleasure in seeing Sri Lanka moving forward with peace and harmony. He also invited Madam Kumaratunge to visit Japan in near future.

Madam Kumaratunge invited Hon Fukuda to facilitate bringing in Japanese investors to Sri Lanka to contribute towards economic development in Sri Lanka. Hon Yasuo Fukuda is the current chairman of Japan Sri Lanka Friendship Association and Boao Forum for Asia (BFA).

Ambassador of Japan in Sri Lanka His Excellency Kenichi Suganuma and Director of ONUR, Amb. Danesh Casie Chetty also participated in the discussions.
